“The Theatre is not violence, it is erosion.  It likes to abrade the moulds of society. In contrast to a hurricane, it is rather like water or the wind, which form the ever changing face of the Earth in nearly imperceptible ways.”
Omar Valino

A personal invitation for you

to a theater immersion laboratory . . .
a period of development with antagon, living and working together. For 17 days, many diverse people will interact with one another in a braid of micro and macro structures. Each person for him- or herself, each person for the group, the group for every individual.

We are interested in the questions and visions of the human beings who have been flooded with “culture” at the beginning of this century. A century that matters, one that follows a time period of greedy souls hording material things and expanding their wealth, a century that has thrown all cultures to the ground and nearly stamped them out, wielding a mechanism that is still lashing out.

For us, it is time again to pose urgent questions about the origin and the character of this environment and of us as humans. Which visions could be changed, which could force the rudder in the other direction? “Hambre y Vida” (Hunger and Life) is our theater lab in Spain; it has been a creative space for the development of ideas, in which we crystalise the important focalpoints of our work: working with collective processes, rituals, and the sensing of the elements as the fundamental building blocks of this world and of our theater.

The elements are starting points, somewhat through a magnifying glass, through which we can more clearly view our own reality. They are secret deliverers and carry in themselves the experience of the battles and lives of the human race. Standing before one’s own wall, questions can be asked, in order to find new and powerful paths that are also politically collective.

“The task of art, culture, education, and the upbringing of the future can only be to sensitise humans to comprehend that they can break through the reigns of control and once again perceive themselvs as a part of the Earth.” Josef Mayer

For us, antagon, the form of our theater is inseparable from the process in the group. Our goal is to bring these messages into the daily stage.

Campo de Nijar
Andalucía

the periphery of the united Europe
in parts completely destroyed lifestyles through tourism and rural migration
ghost towns
empty-swept valleys
ghettos of the marginalised
la grande hacienda del Franco
gypsies in huge plastic greenhouses
seven days of rain in a year
desert
steppes
water is gold
cheap prices for EU land
felt all the way to Africa
the Arab spirit rubs itself on the European way of life
hundreds of years of the state trying to take control
with the longest independence in the Spanish Civil War
the long history of smuggling and pirating
a special type of people, often closed, but tolerant and freedom-loving
